Accessibility Statement

Our approach to making this site usable for as many visitors as possible, and how to tell us when it falls short.
Our commitment

Kabete National Polytechnic wants this website to be usable by the widest possible audience, including visitors using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, or who need reduced motion. We build with accessible practices from the start rather than bolting them on afterwards, and we treat this as ongoing work, not a one-off task.

What's built in

  • A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
  • Semantic HTML landmarks — header, navigation, main content and footer are marked up properly, not built from generic, meaningless boxes.
  • Keyboard-operable navigation, including the dropdown menus in the main nav and the mobile menu.
  • ARIA labels and states (aria-expanded, aria-current, aria-hidden) on interactive and decorative elements, so assistive technology announces the right thing.
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images; purely decorative images are hidden from assistive technology instead of read aloud as noise.
  • Motion that respects your system's "reduce motion" setting — animations, the homepage slider's autoplay, and parallax effects are all disabled automatically when you've asked your device for less motion.
  • A colour palette chosen to hold reasonable contrast between text and background (see our About page for who sets these standards).
  • Labelled, keyboard-usable forms throughout — contact, complaints, and search.
  • A responsive layout that works from small phones through to desktop monitors.

Display preferences

Use the accessibility button in the corner of the screen to adjust text size, switch to a high-contrast colour scheme, reduce motion, or underline every link for easier scanning. Your choices are remembered on this device for future visits.

Where we're honest about limits

This site has not yet been through a formal, independent WCAG audit, and some embedded third-party tools (for example the Jiunge application widget) are outside our direct control. We would rather tell you that plainly than claim a compliance level we haven't verified.

Tell us about a problem

If you hit a barrier anywhere on this site — a page that doesn't work with your screen reader, a control you can't reach by keyboard, text you can't read — please let us know via the contact page. Tell us the page and what happened, and we'll look into it.
