Quality Assurance

Globally, the primary goal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to provide high-quality training and skills development to youth, preparing them for the workforce. At Kabete National Polytechnic (KNP) the institution has embedded quality as a core principle in the design and execution of its training programs. This is achieved through adherence to the guidelines set out in the TVET Act of 2013 and the standards established by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), the regulatory body responsible for the standardization of technical education in Kenya.

KNP is committed to maintaining high educational standards and ensuring an exceptional learning experience for its trainees. In 2021, the polytechnic established the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) committee under the Chief Principals office, tasked with overseeing quality assurance, control, and enhancement initiatives. The IQA committee has developed and implemented an operational internal quality assurance policy, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement in every aspect of the institution’s operations. This approach enables KNP to consistently deliver high-quality programs and services, while remaining aligned with the expectations of its stakeholders.

The institution’s quality assurance processes are structured around the Kenya National Technical and Vocational Education and Training Quality Assurance Framework (KNTVET-QAF), which encompasses key areas such as TVET governance, industry collaboration, Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF), TVET quality standards, and assessment practices, as well as research and cooperation.

However, there is an increasing emphasis on refining the processes involved in delivering training and evaluating the outcomes, particularly in terms of the skills and competencies of graduates.
