Kabete National Polytechnic
Department of Computing & Informatics

Welcome to the Computing & Informatics department!

The Department of Computing and Informatics offers specialized courses across three sections: the ICT section provides both ICT Level 6 and Level 5 courses, equipping students with advanced and foundational skills in information technology. The Broadcast Journalism section offers a Level 6 course, focusing on media production and reporting for careers in broadcast media. Meanwhile, the Library and Information Science section offers Level 6 and Level 5 courses, training students in the management of information resources and library operations.

The ICT section focuses on advanced skills required to provide comprehensive ICT services. Students are trained to design, implement, and manage IT systems while ensuring security and functionality. They gain expertise in troubleshooting, software development, and maintaining up-to-date systems. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing graduates to tackle complex technological challenges in various professional settings.

The Broadcast Journalism section is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for producing and presenting broadcast content. The curriculum covers the operation of broadcast equipment and studio management, writing and reporting news, and producing feature stories and investigative journalism. Students also learn photojournalism and media convergence, integrating various media platforms to create compelling news content. The program prepares students to manage journalism projects effectively, conduct research in mass communication, and apply the fundamentals of digital journalism.

The Library and Information Science section focuses on advanced competencies in managing and providing library and information services. Students learn to analyze information resources, provide subject access, and ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements. The curriculum includes the use of advanced functions in Integrated Library
Management Systems (ILMS) and managing record-keeping frameworks. This program prepares students to handle complex information management tasks, support library operations, and contribute to the efficient organization and retrieval of information resources.
