To provide an engaging and fulfilling training through Research and
Innovation, Practical and holistic curriculum delivery for Sustainable Agricultural Practices.

OUR HISTORY & COURSES:
Agriculture and Environmental Sciences department began in 2019 as a section in the Applied sciences department. During that time, it was offering only KNEC courses: Certificate in General Agriculture and Diploma in General Agriculture. As a result of the Government directive that every training institution must be ‘CBETized’, the agriculture department has shifted from the KNEC courses to offering modularized CBET courses that enable trainees to be partially certified and employed as soon as they finish a module, or get a full certificate at the end of the CBET programs. So far, the department offers both Kabete National Polytechnic (KNP) and Harmonized Modularized CBET courses such as:

1. AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION KNQF LEVEL 6
2. DAIRY FARM MANAGEMENT KNQF LEVEL 6
3. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY KNQF LEVEL 6
4. SUSTAINABLE RURAL AND URBAN AGRICULTURE KNQF LEVEL
5. ANIMAL PRODUCION KNQF LEVEL 6

From May 2025, the following CBET courses will be included in our program:
6. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY KNQF LEVEL 5
7. GENERAL AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION KNQF LEVEL 4
8. SHEEP SHEARER TECHNOLOGY KNQF LEVEL 3.
9. POULTRY LAYERS PRODUCTION KNQF LEVEL 3
10. POULTRY KIENYEJI PRODUCTION KNQF LEVEL 3
11. POULTRY BROILER PRODUCTION KNQF LEVEL 3
12. PIG PRODUCTION KNQF LEVEL 3

Short courses are also offered within the department. Some of which are:
i. Mushroom production – for 8 weeks.
ii. Horticulture nursery technician – 4 weeks
iii. Poultry technician – 3 weeks
iv. Milk handling technician – 3 weeks

RECENT CHIEVEMENTS
• Facilitated successful trainee practical and industrial attachments with farms, NGO’s and environmental agencies.
• Graduated skilled trainees for the agricultural and environmental sectors nationally and internationally.
• Developed partnerships with Agricultural firms.
• Engaged in Organic farming to ensure fresh animal products as well as crop produce.

RPL program
Since Kabete National Polytechnic is a Qualification Awarding Institution (QAI), the department also recognizes individuals with skills who do not yet have any certificate. Anyone good in any agricultural skill yet lacks a certificate is highly welcome to the Agriculture Department, whereby you will be assessed under the RPL program and when you pass, you will be awarded a certificate.
