Industrial Attachment is a structured supervised work experience in a professional work-setting during which the trainee acquires and applies knowledge and skills for a period of not less than three months in the industry. It is an essential program in the TVET curriculum that enables the polytechnic to strengthen level of collaboration with industry for meaningful learning.
Coordination of all industrial attachment activities is done by the Polytechnic’s Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) in liaison with the Principal’s office. The various departmental ILOs from the academic departments form the Industrial Liaison Committee. Activities and inputs of the ILO committee aim at creating a meaningful and impactful industrial attachment experience, preparing trainees for successful career progression while benefiting the industrial attachment providers.
Objectives of industrial attachment include: –
- To expose trainees to industrial work place culture through the actual involvement in real work environment.
- To create positive work attitudes and professionalism through interaction with people in industry.
- To provide opportunities for trainees to apply skills required through formal/informal instructions in real work situations.
- To build confidence and experience of the trainees in technical operations and problem solving
- To provide the trainees with the opportunities to market their professions and occupational skills.
By the end of the attachment period, the trainee shall be expected to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics of the work place, and the functional relationships within and among organizations.
- Develop and enhance skills in human relations, work attitudes, and team work.
- Acquire orientation to work processes.
- Apply theoretical concepts and acquired skills to practice.
- Obtain knowledge of potential careers.
The attached trainee is expected to fill in log reports for tasks and activities completed weekly in their online logbook or mentoring tools for the CBET trainees. The industrial supervisor / trainer is, in return, expected to comment weekly against tasks accomplished. By the end of the program, an appointed KNP trainer is assigned to visit the industry and discuss progressive outcome of trainees’ industrial attachment.
